“This collection of short school chapel talks from coach spanjer distills a lifetime of wisdom, godliness, and gospel-formed ministry… these meditations are a timely call to discipleship not only for the students to whom they were delivered, but to all who seek to follow christ in our degraded culture. here is a trumpet which makes a clear sound in exhorting the church to greater fidelity in her witness. i commend this volume to you highly.” - dr. kevin chiarot, westminister presbyterian church, pca

“drawing upon his love for the master teacher and years of keen insight into the hearts and minds of young people, bill provides the young reader with a call to conviction, challenge and courageous action in their christian journey. in this day of meaningless living and meandering uncertainty about right and wron, the coach provides a no non-sense, daily game plan for “keeping on keeping on” in the building of god’s kingdom in one’s life. chapel time - with teens, for parents is unique in that it provides realistic applications which are rooted in the good and rich earth of biblical truth.” - dr. sandy outlar, lancaster bible college

Let me take you on a journey…

take a ride with me, from the farm in ‘41 to germany in ‘46, to dachau and you will fly with me in a c-47 during the berlin airlift. from there to my prankster years in high school to the tragedies of parris island in ‘54. then to the obstacle course and the sixth fleet, my conversion and later my motorcycle ride from hell. you will meet the great people who influenced me. to my exit from catholicism and my conflicts with protestant dispensationalism.

we’ll fly a dead (or alive?) person from vermont and have an encounter with the fbi. we will later fly a piper pa90 super cub to woodstock in 1969 and try to play with the “big boys” in the airline business. you will discover with me the reason for embryo transplanting cattle. you will go with me through my discipleship conversion and the miracle that happened on fleury road. you will build a campus with me and take a trip to the ngomongo slums of east africa.

and finally my critical view of the “static” contemporary christian church. “are ye able,” said the master, “to be crucified with me?” (earl Marlatt, 1926)

“God has given us natural laws and with those we have invented all kinds of stuff that have elevated our quality of life. that is a good thing, but the problem is when we trust that ‘stuff’ for our financial sercurity.”

“the church in america today has regressed to a pre-reformation, roman catholic religion’s traditionalism, routine-ism where you now trust more in the church system, regular attendance, etc. than a deep personal faith in christ alone.”

“oh lord, guide us to use our imaginations wildly to create new possibilities to present your gospel of grace to this lost world.”

“why is the gap so great between available evangelicals and those serving god with their lives? this book answers that question.”
